Recreational Therapist

  • Department: Community Development and Housing
  • Employment Status : Full-time, Permanent
  • Hours per Week: 35 hours per week. May include weekday, weekends and evenings
  • Work Location: Various CMHA locations in Sudbury and Val Therese
  • Union Membership: This position is a unionized position (OPSEU)

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Coordinator, Housing, the Recreational Therapist provides person-centered supports, within residential settings, to individuals living with mental health and/or substance use concerns. Working collaboratively with multiple programs, the Recreation Therapist will develop, deliver and evaluate recreational leisure programming that enable residents to enjoy leisure, improve quality of life and achieve optimal independence.

The Recreational Therapist is required to work weekdays, with some evenings and weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree or 2-year Diploma in Therapeutic Recreation/Leisure Services: or degree in Allied Health Program with post-graduation certificate in Therapeutic Recreation from a recognized post-secondary institution is required.
  • Registration in good standing with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario and R/TRO designation is required.
  • Minimum one year experience in related position is required.
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License
  • Access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Automobile liability insurance coverage in the amount of at least $1,000,000.
  • Bilingual requirements will be posted in accordance with the FLS Designation Plan. Bilingualism is required for 50% of positions. If a position is designated bilingual and no bilingual candidates (both internal and external) meet the qualifications, unilingual candidates may be considered.

SALARY INFORMATION

  • Bachelor – Hourly, Step 1: $27.57 – Step 4: $32.44
  • Diploma – Hourly, Step 1: $24.87 – Step 4: $29.26

*Successful candidates for this position will start at Step 1 of the salary grid.
